Sharpe, Jr., Walter Richard, age 81, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died May 1, 2020. Mr. Sharpe was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Major after serving 22 years. Mr. Sharpe earned a Bachelor’s degree from Mercer University and Master’s degrees in California and Colorado. For many years he dedicated his time helping others in mission work, teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon in his church, and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America programs. Mr. Sharpe was the son of the late, Walter Richard Sharpe, Sr. and Linnie Louise Washum Sharpe. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Ann Bancroft and Henry Earl Sharpe.

He is survived by:

Wife of 58 years – Freida Sharpe

Children – Valencia (Mark) Given, Monica Ellmore and Dwayne Sharpe

Siblings – Robert D. (Rita) Sharpe and Glenda (James) Hovey

10 Grandchildren and 3 Great-grandchildren

Many nieces and nephews

 

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with Rev. Chuck Groover officiating. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled for a later date.

Boyd, Barbara Ann, age 66, of Old Hickory, TN and formerly of St. Louis, Mo, died peacefully May 1, 2020. Barbara was an employee of McKendree Village. She was the daughter of the late, Dorse Matthew and Gwenlee Irene Ebert Boyd.

Smith, Kathryn Nichols, age 90, of Lebanon, TN, passed peacefully May 3, 2020 after a sudden illness. Kathryn was born in Kanawha County, WV. She was the daughter of the late, Luther F. and Gladys Wheatcraft Nichols. She and Walter Ray Smith were sweethearts from a young age. They married on August 26, 1946. They were united for over 64 years until Walter’s death on March 20, 2011. Kathryn was a homemaker and was devoted to her husband and children. She spent the last seven years of her life at Carrick Glen Assisted Living Facility in Mt. Juliet before moving in last month with her eldest son, Delmar.

She is survived by:

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a private family service will be conducted Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Bond Memorial Chapel. Interment will be Friday, May 8, 2020 at Floral Hills Gardens of Memory in Sissonville, WV.

Cox, Marjorie Mollie, age 99, of Mt. Juliet, TN and Ontonagon, MI, died May 8, 2020. Mollie was born near Birmingham, England and was the daughter of the late, Tom and Ester Brown. Although Mollie spent many years in the United States, she never lost her British accent. She was known to minister quietly through her cards and visits.

She is survived by:

McGowan, Lynne Denise, age 65, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died May 12, 2020. Lynne was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and worked as a registrar at Summit Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late, Frank C. and Ernestine Foster Hurst.

Flicek, Joyce Myra Hopp, age 76, of Hermitage, TN, died May 20, 2020.

Mrs. Flicek was the daughter of the late, Julius August Herman Hopp and Catherine Durnam Hentschel Hopp. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Raymond (Donna) Hentschel (who raised her after her parents died), Richard Hentschel, Doreen Hentschel, Jimmy Hentschel, Clifford Hopp, Lauretta Hopp, Myra Hopp and Joy Hopp. Mrs. Flicek was also preceded in death by her grandson, Cage Thomas Flicek.

She is survived by:

Children – Lori Flicek, Jeffrey Flicek, Theresa “Teri” Flicek (Joseph) Paine and

               Michael (Jennifer) Flicek

Bridge, Zane Alexander, age 25, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died May 20, 2020. Zane was a “social butterfly” and “an amateur comedian”, who loved to dance and ride motorcycles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sharon Ann Bates and his paternal grandfather, William R. Bridge. Zane was also preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Harold E. and Virginia Stewart, Herbert N. and Betty Bates, Burton E. Bridge, Dorothy Bridge, Roland C. Payne and Freida Payne.

He is survived by:

LeGore, Nancy Louise Lydin, age 77, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died May 21, 2020. Nancy was born In Seattle, WA and spent her youth in Yakima, WA, where she was a dancer, baton twirler, and a pianist. She is fondly remembered by her family for being crowned Miss Delicious of Yakima Valley in 1953. Nancy spent her adult years living in Oregon, California, Alaska, Arizona, and Texas. In Tennessee, she was an active resident in her community where she played bridge, golfed, cooked, was an embroiderer and enjoyed family gatherings. In Nancy’s most recent years, her most joyous time was spent being Nana to her two grandchildren, with whom she loved to swim and bake “Nana-Bread”. Nancy was the daughter of the late, A. Val and Opal Lydin.

She is survived by:

Husband of 54 years – Dick D. LeGore

Daughters – Dana R. (Dan) Rosellini, Jill M. (Dan) Srba and

                  Holly M. (Stuart) Miller

Grandchildren – Hatcher Beau Miller and Hadley Anabelle Miller

Malone, Jerry Carroll, age 83, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died May 25, 2020. Mr. Malone was a member of Tulip Grove Baptist Church. He took many mission trips where he ministered through his building skills. Mr. Malone was a 1957 graduate of Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, TN and a veteran of the Air National Guard and the Reserve of the US Air Force. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, boating, fishing and UT football.  Mr. Malone was the son of the late, James Edward and Irene Taylor Malone. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Judith Anne “Judy” Malone and his siblings, Don Malone and Carol Duncan.

He is survived by:

Children – Chip Malone, Scott Malone, Sheril Hipkins and Steve Malone

Siblings – Jimmy Malone and Tammy Tune

Grandchildren – Kyle Malone, Brooke Malone, Rachel Malone, Chris Fults and

                       Maegan Anderson

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Estriberto Britton officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Malone, Todd Malone, Pat Tune, Richard Davis, Glenn Johnson and Tom Becker.

Lewis, III, Osia Delmer, age 57, of Nashville, TN, died May 31, 2020 following a long battle with liver cancer. Mr. Lewis was a senior defensive analyst at Vanderbilt University at the time of his death. He joined Vanderbilt’s staff in 2016 as senior defensive assistant and outside linebackers coach. Due to his cancer diagnosis, he stepped aside from full-time coaching in 2017, moving into a role of senior defensive assistant and special consultant to head coach Derek Morgan. “Osia Lewis was a special man. His wisdom, love, honesty, truth and faith-based views truly set him apart. He was a foxhole teacher who made you better just being around him,” Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason said in a statement. Mr. Lewis played for Oregon State from 1982-1985 as a linebacker. During his senior campaign, he was team captain and earned honorable mention All-American honors. Mr. Lewis was All-Pac 10 and named the Beavers’ most inspirational player. He earned a bachelor’s in social science and master’s degree in education from Oregon State. Mr. Lewis continued his playing career professionally in the Canadian Football League and in the Arena Football League. Following a brief professional playing career, Mr. Lewis began coaching at Western Oregon in 1989. He then returned to Oregon State, where he served as a linebackers and special teams coach under Jerry Pettibone from 1991-96. Mr. Lewis also had assistant coaching stints at New Mexico and San Diego State while working for former Oregon State defensive coordinator Rocky Long.
