Raines, Robert Lee, age 85, of Mt. Juliet, TN died January 7, 2023. Robert was born September 27, 1937 in Fayetteville, NC and was the son of the late Brooks Hampton Raines and Media McCall Raines. He grew up in Red Springs, NC and was a 1955 graduate of Red Springs High School. Robert was a retired Chief Master Sergeant, U.S. Air Force. He served in Greenland, Vietnam, Thailand and Germany during his 26 year career. Robert later retired from the Horry County, SC Assessor’s office and the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Hampton Wade.

He is survived by:

Wife of 64 years – Sarah Hutcherson Raines

Children – Lisa R. Wade of Fountain Inn, SC and Larry S. (Kim) Raines of Cumming, GA

Sister – Connie (Judy) Thornburg of Asheboro, NC

Grandchildren – Becky, Mackenzie and Victoria

 

Funeral services will be conducted 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Dr. Phillip Dunn officiating. Interment will be at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC.

Yakes, Frank Charles, age 78, of Mt. Juliet, TN died January 7, 2023. Frank was born in Denver, CO and was the son of the late Frank Yakes and Martha (Snapka) Yakes. Frank retired from Ford Motor Company after 35 years as a Product Design Engineer. He is remembered as an avid collector of stamps and coins, a lifelong learner of history, the neighborhood handyman, and coach. He was preceded in death by his sister, Camille (Yakes) Greenwald.

He is survived by:

Coker, Mitchell Howard, age 67, of Mt. Juliet, TN died January 14, 2023. Mitch was born in Florence, AL and was the son of the late, James Howard Coker and Katherine Thompson Coker. He grew up in Lewisburg, TN later moving to Mt. Juliet. Mitch was a member of Mt. Juliet Church of Christ. He began his 30-year career at Nissan in 1982. An early retirement allowed him to pursue several other avenues of work, which included, home security systems, monitoring fuel tanks for Nissan plants in Mississippi and Smyrna, and co-owner of Elite Motor Cars. Always having an interest in his own financial matters, he then obtained his license becoming an Investment Advisor Representative with First Advisors National, later becoming the company’s Senior Vice President. He was Co-Founder of First Family Wealth where he helped numerous Nissan employees and others planning their retirement. His long-time hobbies and interests included classic and antique cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and love for traditional country and bluegrass music. He was a member of the car club Honk, Rattle and Roll and Porsche club of America.

He is survived by:

Wife of 46 years – Denise Wade Coker

Children – Allison Leigh (Brandon) Adkisson and Brian Matthew (Mckenzie) Coker

Brother – Greg Coker

Brother-in-law – Mark (Lori) Wade

Gregory, James Ligon, age 85, of Mt. Juliet, TN died January 15, 2023. Jim was born in Giles County, TN and was the son of the late, Ligon Green Gregory and Julia Burgess Gregory. He was a member of Mt. Juliet Church of Christ. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant. He then began his career in Flight Service with Federal Aviation. Jim was a huge supporter of the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort and drove for them for many years after his retirement.

Victory, Gloria Jeanette, age 78, of Mt. Juliet, TN died January 18, 2023. Jeanette was born in Mt. Juliet, TN and was the daughter of the late, Rufus McPeak, Sr. and Mildred Keele McPeak. She was a member of Christ Servants Baptist Church. Jeanette spent much of her career as a hairdresser. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing games and listening to music. Jeanette was a huge Elvis fan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Haskell Victory; her sister, Nancy Mooneyham and her brother, PeeWee McPeak.

She is survived by:

Grandchildren – Matthew Victory, Brandon Victory and Lauren French

David Michael Rawson, age 62, of Lebanon, TN, passed on to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family, after a struggle against lymphoma, on January 16, 2023. David was born in Harvey, Il, and was the son of the late, J. Michael Rawson and Neeltje VanEs Rawson.

 

David spent his early years enjoying nature, visiting his beloved family cabin in Wisconsin, and working at his family restaurant, the Keeler Keg & Kitchen. It was there he met his future wife while developing his skills for cooking and hosting. David had a servant’s heart and was a friend to all. He would light up a room with his smile and loved to entertain. 

 

David was employed by Whirlpool Corporation, and later LG Appliance, where he formed many lifelong relationships with his coworkers. He enjoyed golfing, running, listening to music, and cruising Big Crooked Lake with his friends and family. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church and St. Stephen’s Catholic Community.

 

David will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and for being the all-around best hugger. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Catherine Rawson; amazing children Cara (Nick) Krug and Shawn Rawson; and his grandsons who were the joy of his life, David and Benjamin Krug. He was blessed with his siblings- Sherrie (the late John) Mason, Terrie (Mark) DeMar, Debbie (Tom) Ziemke, and Tom Rawson. He was loved by his Foster family, William Foster Jr., Tim Foster, Joe (Terrie) Foster, and Jeff (Tony Villesenor) Foster.  David is survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at St. Stephen Catholic Community, 14544 Lebanon Road, Old Hickory, TN. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.

Easley, Mary Cheryl (Cher), age 77 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born on April 11, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA. The family soon returned to Nashville, TN, where she resided for the next 50 plus years before retiring in Madeira Beach, FL. 

 

She is preceded in death by her father, George Thomas Pearson Sr., mother, Mary Elizabeth Gleaves, step-father, Wallace Gleaves, step-mother, (Peggy Pearson), and brother, George Thomas Pearson, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Billy (Kitty) Pearson, sister, Georgette (Jim) Simmons, three children, Johnathan (Michelle) Sloan, Michele (Keith) Batson, and Andrea Murphy (Jeff Bradow), grandchildren David Sloan, Sean Murphy, Padraic Murphy, and bonus grandchildren, Tucker (Megan) Batson, Zach Batson, Hannah Bradow, and Abigail Bradow, as well numerous extended family and friends in TN and FL. 

 

Cheryl loved her family, friends, and God. She loved to travel and was rarely still. The beach, music, golf, sports, gardening, and reading were just a few of her passions. 

 

Cheryl was a successful Realtor/Broker, Home Builder, and Developer. She was a trailblazer and became one of the first women General Contractors in Wilson County, TN. She worked in the real estate industry for over 45 years, earning numerous awards and held an active license to the day she passed. 

 

Cheryl loved her country and the military. In honor of her late brother George and his service, she joined the American Legion Post # 273 in Maderia Beach, FL, in addition to the Women’s Auxiliary Group, serving as past President. 

 

She was very generous and contributed to many charities. St. Joseph‘s Indian School was especially near & dear to her. 

 

Cheryl was a loving daughter, mother, nana, sister, and friend to all. She will be greatly loved, missed, and remembered. Please join us in celebrating her life. 

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Bond Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ray Handisides officiating. Entombment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Keith Batson, Jeff Bradow, David Sloan, Sean Murphy, Tucker Batson, and Steve Pearson.

Thomas, Stephen Davis, age 74, of Old Hickory, TN died January 25, 2023. Steve was born in Nashville, TN and was the son of the late, Cordell Hull Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Davis Thomas. He was formerly a Codes Enforcement Officer for the City of Mt. Juliet. Steve enjoyed fishing, boating, firearms and training Schutzhund dogs. He also did custom rod wrapping.

Jan Annette Hollier, at age 68, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on October 15, 1954 in Port Arthur, Texas, she was the fifth of seven children of the late Fred and June Hollier. She attended DeQueen Elementary School, Robert E. Lee Elementary School, Thomas Edison Junior High School, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1973, and graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor in Music Education in 1977. She started studying music in third grade by playing the trumpet at which she was very accomplished. Through the years, she studied piano, taught herself how to play the six-string and twelve-string acoustic guitars as well as the electric bass, and studied numerous other instruments at Baylor as she had an emphasis in instrumentation as part of her music degree. She and her twin sister, Jill Hollier Leal, began their music careers as teenagers singing at the First Baptist Church in Port Arthur. They traveled the United States entertaining at various events and venues including Las Vegas and Reno. Their younger brother, Jeff Hollier, joined the act playing trombone, drums, and singing. Jan later entertained as a successful solo artist in Dallas, Texas. Being a highly skilled songwriter and musician, Jan’s “Trying to Hold the Memory” was one of the first-place winners in the 10th Annual Kentucky Fried Chicken National Songwriting Contest which was recorded by country-pop singer Sylvia. A multitude of other awards followed throughout the many years of her entertainment career. Eventually, Jan made her way to Nashville, Tennessee. She greatly enjoyed leading worship music and was hired as the worship leader at an American Baptist Church in Sunnyvale, California. She returned to Nashville where she began a career as a Claims Examiner III for the Tennessee Disability Determination Services and retired in June of 2020. She continued to play her trumpet in her church orchestra at Tulip Grove Baptist Church in Old Hickory, Tennessee and as a member of various other community bands in Nashville. Besides her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her older sisters, Malinna Hensley and Joanna Schmidtke, and her niece, Chloie Collins. Her immediate family members who remain behind are her oldest brother, Fred Hollier, Jr. and wife Sona; older brother, Dr. Paul Hollier and wife Kim; twin sister, Jill Hollier Leal and husband Robert; and younger brother, Jeff Hollier and wife Clara. Jan was buried on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at a small, private graveside service at Sutter Cemetery near Yuba City, California on a gorgeous, sunny day surrounded by much love, music, and memories of her beauty and talents. Active pallbearers were Fred Hollier, Jr., James Middleton, John Penning, Jim Penning, Rick Robinson, and Jim Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Paul Hollier and Jeff Hollier. Jan will be greatly missed by her family and friends around the country as she will be singing, praising, and playing her trumpet in Heaven to the glory of the Lord for eternity!
