William Louis Barnes

Barnes, Butch , age 79, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died May 19, 2024.  Butch was born in Florence, AL to the late, William Louis Barnes and Isa Butler Barnes. He is also preceded in death by his son, William Bradley Barnes, sisters, Joyce Barnes James and Ellen Barnes Jennings, and a brother, William C. Barnes. Butch served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, where he was a member of the River Division 512. He received numerous Medals and Commendations including: National Defense, Vietnam Service with a Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, Navy Achievement with Combat “V”, U.S. Navy Combat Action Ribbon, and the U.S. Navy Meritorious Unit Citation. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1004 of Lebanon. After his time in the service, he spent 39 years working for the Vanity Fair Corporation. He was a member of Baker’s Grove Baptist Church where he held many positions. Butch was a very kind, Christian man, known for his many stories that he loved to tell.  He loved his family and the Lord and he always went out of his way to help and encourage others. Besides his family, his other true love was wood carving. He was a master carver and was a member of the Fiddler’s Grove Wood Carvers, Leipers Fork Wood Carvers, and the Nature’s Coast Wood Carvers of Florida.

He is survived by:

Wife of 53 years – Evelyn Barnes

Son – Brent (Penny) Barnes

Grandchildren – Cheyenne Barnes, Garrett Testerman, Katelynn Foley, Cody Foley

Great Granddaughter – Serenity Vance

Brother – James Louis (Mary) Barnes

Sister – Glenda Barnes (Ralph) Stone

Beloved Fur babies – Riley and Tucker

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Van Richmond and Bobby Devine officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Bond Memorial Chapel. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fiddlers Grove Wood Carvers and the Leipers Fork Wood Carvers.
