Robert Wayne Murphy, age 72, of Lebanon, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026. “Murphy” was born in Ridgeland, South Carolina, to the late Robert Murphy and Billie Jo King. Murphy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother.
He was married to his devoted wife, Jackie for 29 years. He retired from Central Transport/Superior Carriers. Murphy loved hot rods, building race cars and had a need for speed, whether on the track or on the road. He enjoyed round track racing for many years at Highland Rim Speedway and Nashville Fairgrounds. He and his wife loved drag racing and spending time with their racing families. He spent most of his free time working on race cars in the garage, getting them ready for the weekend. He loved being at the track, going to eat lunch with the boys and cruising the roads on his Harley.
His favorite vacation spot was Myrtle Beach and especially eating all the seafood! Murphy was the greatest story teller of all time. To know him was to love him. He was a hard working, strong man but also a gentle giant. He loved his family, his many friends, and especially his dogs whom he hardly ever left home without. He was deeply loved and admired and will be forever missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Murphy; mother, Billie Jo King; stepfather, Bobby King; and a brother, Charles King.
