Thomas Edward Barnes

Barnes, Thomas Edward “Sonny” , age 86, died September 17, 2024. Sonny was born in Ardmore, AL and was the son of the late Howard A. Barnes and Annie Letha Trusty Barnes. He was a member of Gladeville Baptist Church and was retired from the Tennessee School for the Blind. Sonny was also a farmer, but farming wasn’t just a job; it was a way of life. His cows held a special place in his heart. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by wife, Julia Barnes; sisters, Janie Barnes and Faye Cox and brother, Curtis Barnes.

Sonny is survived by:

Children – Steve (Angie) Barnes, Sonya (Butch) O’Neal and Shelia (Drew) Derosett

Step-children – Buddy (Kim) Farrar, Patricia Farrar and John (Trix) Farrar

Siblings – Brenda Boatright, Joyce Moore, Carolyn Thompson, Dorsey Birdsong, Jerry Barnes,

Paul Barnes, Marcus Barnes and Ted Barnes

Grandchildren – Steven Barnes, Thomas Barnes, Beth Vaupel, Brandi Dickson, Trey O’Neal,

Joshua O’Neal, Ashlee Milan, Sarah Brakebill, Callie Derosett and Abigale Brady

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Michael Eubanks officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
