Cates, Steve Charles , age 75, passed away on November 3, 2024. Steve was born in Crossville, Tennessee. He was a Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother. Steve retired as a Metro Nashville Firefighter after 35 years of dedicated service. He was the father of a hero, Lance Corporal Tyler Cates, a true friend, and avid outdoorsman. He greatly loved his family, friends, and our great country. He will be missed every day. He was preceded in death by his mother, Reva Dodson Bush and his son, Lance Corporal Tyler Cates.

Steve is survived by:

Wife of 25 years – Denine Scott Cates

Son – Joe (Tammy Young) Cates

Daughters – Alisha Willis and Ashley (Cody) Nichols

Adopted children – Adrianne (Travis) Hardwick and Victor Norris

Sister – Jimmie Faye Douglas

Brothers – Frank (Connie) Bush and Paul (Katherine) Bush

Grandchildren – Hunter Cates, Kylie Cates, Savannah Cates, Justin Willis, Haydon Russell, Evie Parks, Madison Parks, and Michelle (Jonah) Tinnel

Great Grandchildren – Dayton Fathera, Everette Fathera, and Evie Fathera

Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Bro. Marty Davenport officiating. A private interment will follow at Crossville City Cemetery in Crossville, TN. Active pallbearers will be Ken Nelson, Victor Norris, Travis Hardwick, Paul Poland, Jonah Tinnel, and Hunter Cates. Honorary pallbearers will be current and retired employees of the Metro Nashville Fire Department.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service time Saturday at Bond Memorial Chapel, 1098 Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet, TN.     (615) 773-2663, www.bondmemorial.com
