Shirley "S.D." Dale Wassom

Shirley “S.D.” Dale Wassom, age 87, of Jackson County, TN, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026. He was born to Elbert and Mattie Wassom on November 28, 1938, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Shirley is survived by:

Wife - his devoted wife of 62 years, Derian Wassom

Son - Larry Wassom (LaTasha)

Daughter - Julie Wassom Wheeler (David) and

Cherished grandchildren - Whitney Wheeler, Abby Wheeler, Ethan Wassom, and Isaiah Wassom

Beloved great-grandson - Graham Pratt

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert P. Wassom and Mattie Lela Wassom.

A proud veteran, S.D. retired honorably as a Bird Colonel with the Army National Guard after 40 years of service. He was known for his hardworking, supportive, dependable, and honest nature, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. S.D. loved staying active and enjoyed basketball, water skiing at Center Hill Lake, and cheering on his beloved Tennessee football team.

A funeral service in honor of S.D. will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Bond Memorial Chapel, officiated by Jeff Pratt. Interment will follow at Shipley Cemetery in Cookeville, TN, with military honors. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m.

S.D. will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
