Payne, Pauline Lois “Honey” Cawthron , age 77, went to be with our Lord on Saturday afternoon, November 14, 2020, at Tristar Summit Medical Center. Pauline was born in Wartrace, TN on September 15, 1943, the daughter of Clyde and Edith Cawthron. She graduated from Tullahoma High School and St. Thomas Nursing School in Nashville. Becoming a nurse had been her life goal since she was in grade school, and she pursued that dream her entire life and was proud of it. She was so adamant about the importance of the nursing career that she loved encouraging people to follow that path. Upon graduating from nursing school, her first job as a registered nurse was at Sewanee, University of the South. After meeting the love of her life, James Parker Payne, she moved to Akron, OH where she served as nurse in Akron’s City Hospital. In Akron, she was a member of the Cathedral of Tomorrow under Rex Humbard. Rex would go on to marry them on August 6, 1966 – they had celebrated their 54thanniversary this year. Always wanting to move back to Tennessee, Jim and Pauline had the opportunity to move their family back to Nashville, in the Hermitage area, in 1976. Pauline continued to work as a nurse in Nashville area hospitals. She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. Lovingly nicknamed by her grandchildren as their precious “Honey”, Pauline never ceased bragging about her grandchildren to all who could hear and showering them with her love. Pauline loved pageantry and was the Queen Mother of the Miss Tennessee USA, Miss Georgia USA, and Miss Mississippi USA pageants and loved seeing young women pursue their dreams and strive for personal excellence. She was always everyone’s biggest cheerleader and delighted in encouraging and watching those around her reach and achieve their goals! After they retired, Jim and Pauline hit the road in their 40-foot fifth wheel and traveled to every state in the country and loved making friends wherever they went. They were avid fans of Southern Gospel music and counted many artists as their personal friends for most of her lives. Their home was always open to friends and family, and everyone who visited left feeling the warmth of their love. Pauline never met a stranger and loved people. She also had an insatiable curiosity for learning, living life to the fullest, travel, football and reading. Pauline lived life to the fullest! She was involved in many church activities, camping, and camp groups. Her favorite pastime was supporting her five grandsons in all of their endeavors; she never missed a play, a concert, grandparents day or game. While she spent many years at Calvary Assembly of God in Donelson, after retiring to Mt. Juliet, she was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Pauline is survived by her husband, James Payne; her sister, Vera Cawthron of Tullahoma; her sister-in-law, Donna Cawthron; brother-in-law, Charles (Kathy) Payne of Leesburg, FL; her two children, Kimberly Greenwood and her husband Lee, of Nashville, Andrew Payne and his wife Keela, of Kodak; five adored grandchildren, Dalton and Parker Greenwood, and Aiden, Brenden, and Cian Payne. She was preceded in death by her son, Randall “Randy” James Payne; her parents, Clyde and Edith Cawthron; her brothers, Billy Joe Cawthron and Harold Cawthron. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Victory Baptist Church, 1777 Tate Lane, Mt. Juliet, TN with Rev. Chuck Groover officiating.
