Michael Wayne Haapala

Haapala, Michael Wayne “Mike” , age 48, of Lebanon, TN, died June 20, 2019. Mike was a 1989 graduate of Hunters Lane High School. He received his Associate degree in Physical Therapy at Vol State and his Bachelor’s degree at Trevecca University. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Suncrest Home Health. Mike enjoyed running and was a three time Ironman Ultra Marathoner. He enjoyed boating, camping and kayaking with his family and was excellent at barbecuing. Mike spent his life helping others, whether it be a friend, a stranger or one of his patients. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, L.W. and Evelyn Bush, Leslie and Elizabeth Holt and Alfred Michael Haapala.

He is survived by:

Wife of 15 years – Carrie Bailey Haapala

Children – Reece and Jordan Haapala

Parents – Gary and Anna Haapala

Sister – Mecca (Jason) Ezell

Nephew and niece – Parker and Madelyn Ezell

Father and mother-in-law – Bob and Kathy Bailey

A Celebration of Life services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Victory Baptist Church, 1777 Tate Lane, Mt. Juliet, TN with Rev. Chuck Groover officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Interment with military honors will follow at a later date at Nashville National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Downing, Richie Hackett, Toby Grisham, Phillip Arrington, Harold McClarin and Joe Towers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
