In Loving Memory of Mary Willis
Mary Willis, a beloved mother, cherished friend, and compassionate advocate for children and animals, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a lasting legacy of love.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 21, 1948, to Basil and Mary McIntyre, Mary attended East High School and spent much of her life in the community she called home.
She retired from The Tennessean in 2010 after a career of service and dedication. Mary had a compassionate heart, particularly for those who could not speak for themselves. She was a devoted advocate for children and animal welfare, believing in the importance of protecting the vulnerable and offering kindness to those in need. Her love for children and animals reflected the caring spirit that was such an important part of who she was. Above all, Mary treasured the people she held dear.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Eades, who held a special place in her heart, and her lifelong best friends, Sandy and Neil Miller, whose enduring friendship was a treasured part of her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Ray McIntyre, and her sisters, Barbara Drummond and Faye Cavendar. Though Mary will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, in the kindness she inspired, and in the lives made better by her compassion. The love she gave and the causes she championed will remain a meaningful part of her legacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Nashville Humane Association, in honor of Mary’s love for children and animals. She will be remembered with love, missed beyond words, and forever held close in the hearts of those who knew her.
A memorial service in honor of Mary will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Bond Memorial Chapel officated by Pastor Charles Specht. Visitation will take place one hour before the service.
