John Edward "Biggin" Humes, born in Nashville, TN, on October 17, 1957, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lasting impact on the lives he touched. Son of John Humes Sr. and Helen Marie Dennis, Biggin was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
Biggin proudly served the Metro Nashville police for 36 years, starting in 1980. He received the Metropolitan Service Award for his dedication to the community. John was heavily involved with the Metro Police Explorer Post 911 and extremely proud of their many award winning appearances at the National and State level. Many of the explorers that he mentored, went on to a career in law enforcement. Family was everything to Biggin; his children and grandchildren were his world, and he loved watching them play sports. He cherished each of his 22 grandchildren and made sure everyone felt included in his big family. Biggin had many hobbies, like watching old westerns, being an avid gun collector, and being a Master Mason. Though he was often called "grumpy" by his kids and grandkids, each of them knew he truly had a heart of gold.
Biggin is survived by:
Sisters - Diane Favors, Denise Bailey (Jim), Dawn Dwyer (Eric)
Children - John Humes III (Ashley), Travis Humes (Paige), Christine Humes, and Jimmy Hunter
He is also survived by his former spouse and the loving mother of his children, DeeAnn Ferguson, and twenty-two beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Biggin was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Humes Sr. and Helen Marie Humes, and his sisters, Linda Graves and Donna Humes.
