James Eric Cantrell

James Eric Cantrell Jr., known affectionately as Eric, passed away on November 28, 2025, at the age of 77 in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Born on September 10, 1948, in Nashville, Tennessee, he embarked on a multifaceted career that demonstrated his remarkable versatility and skill.

Eric began his professional journey as a young carpenter, a trade that laid the foundation for his diverse skill set. His career expanded to include roles as a farmer and school bus driver, reflecting his ability to adapt and learn anything. His adeptness at problem-solving and hands-on skills led him to a position as a Maintenance Supervisor at an apartment community. His dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks to retire as a Regional Service Director. Not just limited to these roles, Eric was also an accomplished painter, HVAC certified, and a skilled welder. He hunted deer, raised cattle, and grew gardens, embodying the spirit of a true outdoorsman.

Even after retirement, Eric continued to embrace life with vigor, mowing lawns and engaging in activities he loved. He was a passionate motorcycle rider, an avid camper in the Smoky Mountains, and enjoyed watching the television show "Gold Rush" with his wife, Marcy. His grandchildren were a source of immense joy, and his interactions with them were cherished moments. His best friend and the person he looked up to as a father was his father in law Jim. He enjoyed Jim’s company and doing things for him and with him.

Eric is survived by his loving wife, Marcy Cantrell; daughters, Sherry Simmons (Bruce), Kimberly Russell (Bill), and Lori O’Neil (Michael); son, Jame Eric Cantrell III (Lily); grandchildren, Jacob O’Neil (Samantha), Rachel Thurmond (Michael), Kenzlee Cantrell, Bentley Cantrell, Cashton Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Analeigh O’Neil, and Declan O’Neil. He also leaves behind siblings Michael Cantrell, Rick Cantrell (Cindy), Harold Lane (Marie), Wayne and Kitty Nicks, as well as in-laws James and Joan McGhee.

Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laura Etta and Henry Clay Stephenson; parents, Sarah Lane Cantrell and James Eric Cantrell Sr.; brothers, Eddie Lane, Jimmy Clay Cantrell and sister-in-law, Carol Cantrell.

Eric Cantrell Jr. was a man who could do anything he set his mind to. His life was a testament to his strength, resilience, and the deep love he held for his family. He will be remembered as a caring husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
