Irene B. Watson

Watson, Irene B. Schmidt , age 93, of Hartselle, AL and formerly of Mt. Juliet, TN died October 9, 2022. Irene was born in Germany and was the daughter of the late, Eduard Schmidt and Ida Anna Wendel Schmidt. Irene is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 57 years Thurman Ewing Watson, and her son Thurman Edward “Eddie” Watson.

She is survived by brother Ulrich (Renate) Schmidt; her children, Ronald N. Watson (Barbara), Pierre M. Watson (Jenna), and Charles U. (Sandra) Watson; twenty grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Irene was a member of the United Methodist Church. She worked in multiple Civil Service, Corporate Administrative, and Customer Service roles.  Following WWII, Irene and Thurman married in Germany and moved to the US where she became a US Citizen.  She was proud of her German/American heritage.

Irene enjoyed domestic and international travel, living abroad on multiple occasions.  Irene was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.  While known for her honesty and toughness, she genuinely demonstrated kindness and care for everyone.  Family was always most important.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Bond Memorial Chapel in Mt. Juliet, TN with interment to follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
