Gladys Marie Clark, age 90, went home to be with her lord, where she was joyfully reunited with her husband, Raymond Clark, on July 16, 2026. Gladys was born August 16, 1935 to Ezra Wilson and Virgin Mary Midgett in Nashville, TN. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, granny, and friend whose kindness and strength touched those who knew her.
Gladys married her sweetheart, Raymond, and shared 62 years of marriage and raised two daughters, who were precious to her. Gladys was a devoted church member, volunteer, and friendly face wherever she went. She was a charter member of Dickerson Road Baptist Church, which started in her parents’ home, and was, later, an active member at Tulip Grove Baptist Church. Gladys always made time for others, making people feel special with handwritten and colored cards or a hard candy or small treat tucked away for them in her pocket book. She lovingly curated photos and memories for each of her grandchildren, who cherished flipping through them during every visit. Blessed with an extraordinary green thumb, Gladys delighted in gardening of any kind and generously shared her impressive tomatoes with friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else she could. Nothing brought her greater happiness than cooking for those she loved, hosting countless spaghetti suppers, breakfasts for dinner, complete with pecan pie muffins and chocolate gravy, and an always stocked snack drawer for her family, while somehow keeping her home impeccably tidy. She also loved settling in to watch sports, especially cheering on Vanderbilt basketball. Gladys was a truly special lady, who carried herself with grace, joy, and humor, and will leave a lasting legacy of compassion within those who were blessed to be loved by her.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Wilson Midgett and Virgin Mary Davenport; her late husband, Raymond Dean Clark, and her siblings Ezra Dale Midgett, James Davis Midgett, Doyle Minton Midgett, and Ann Eulaila Cunniff.
Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Janet Marie Wray (Duane) and Debbie Dean Davis (Bobby); her 6 grandchildren, Christy Busby (Bruce (B.J.), Ashley Goodwin (Brandon), Deah Thornhill (Trevor Crowell), Destiny Davis, and Derek Thornhill (Stephanie), 8 great grandchildren, Aaron Busby (Kristen), Carley Busby, Everley Goodwin, Jeremiah Feliz, Sloane Goodwin, Jett Thornhill, Jaeda Feliz, and Thea Thornhill, and 2 great grandchildren, Zoe Busby and Camden Greer, along with nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service for Gladys will be held at Bond Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Duane Wray with entombment to follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bobby Davis, BJ Busby, Brandon Goodwin, Trevor Croll, Derek Thornhill, and Aaron Busby. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the service to follow.
