Chester Murphy

Murphy, Chester , age 88, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died December 13, 2018. Mr. Murphy was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the UN Service Medal. Mr. Murphy was the son of the late, Andrew Jackson and Pearl Creekmore Murphy. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Christine Murphy and his siblings, Billy J. Murphy and Evelyn Babb.

He is survived by:

Son – Tony (Patricia) Murphy

Brother – Jack (Patricia) Murphy

Sisters – Jean Pope and Julie Strickland

Grandson – Clayton (Jessica) Scales

Great-grandchildren – Jacob and Colt (due in March 2019)

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church, 610 S. New Hope Road, Hermitage, TN with Rev. Dan Garland officiating.

Interment with full military honors will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 610 S. New Hope Road, Hermitage, TN 37076.

Visitation will be at the church from 3-5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to service time Monday.
