Charles Branson Sherrill

Sherrill, Charles Branson , age 89, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died March 8, 2021. Mr. Sherrill was born on a farm near Grandview, TN and was the son of the late William Major Sherrill and Amy Irene Garrison Sherrill. He was a member of The Pointe Church. Mr. Sherrill was a graduate of Spring City High School, where he played on the football team, and he attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sherrill owned Sherrill’s TV, Furniture and Appliance, one of the earliest suppliers of TVs in the Chattanooga area. Mr. Sherrill ran for U.S. Congress to represent the 7th District of Georgia, and he served for a total of 20 years as Mayor of Rossville, GA.  While Mayor, Mr. Sherrill was active in the Georgia Municipal Association.

Throughout his life, Mr. Sherrill enjoyed helping people.  As Mayor, he renovated Rossville Park and added additional baseball fields.  He frequently visited the park on Friday nights, and was delighted that the Park was active with ballgames and people having a good time.  He fielded phone calls at home, often on weekends, from city residents who needed help with all kinds of issues.  He visited numerous churches to speak on behalf of Gideons International, an organization that raises funds to distribute Bibles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Agnes Reed, Masel Reed, Jewell Dunn and Nellie Brown.

He is survived by:

Wife of 68 years – Sylvia Broxton Sherrill

Children – Sherry (Rich) Tiner of Lebanon, TN,

David (Amy) Sherrill of Atlanta, GA and

Paul (Linda Kaiser) Sherrill of Grapevine, TX

Brother – Mitchell Sherrill

Grandchildren – Matthew (Sarah) Morgan, Alex (Madeline) Morgan,

Thomas Sherrill and Sabrina Sherrill

Great-grandchild – Henry Morgan

Many nieces and nephews

Private graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. CST Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Reed Cemetery off Happy Top Rd in Grandview, TN with Pastor Rich Tiner officiating. For those attending, please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International.
