Griffith, Carolyn Ruth, born in Richard City, TN, January 17, 1943, went to her heavenly home on May 9, 2026. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Griffith, Mother, Elizabeth Holt Friel, father, Frances Friel, sister, Gloria Grant; her daughter, Frances Patrick; and her son, Stephen Robinson. Carolyn is survived by her sister, Linda White, daughters, Jodi Mason (Matthew), Florida, Becki Crawford, Jonesborough, TN, her grandchildren Richard Crawford, Brett Granstaff, Cody Patrick (Kathleen), and Cheyenne Agee (Taylor); great-grandchildren, Brett Crawford, Ethan Crawford, and Kade and Jake Agee
Growing up in Chattanooga, Carolyn attended Chattanooga Central High School and later attended Tennessee Tech, graduating with a BS degree. She attended Middle TN State University, earning a Med degree, and continued to earn post-graduate credits. Carolyn taught children for 23 years, most years in Special Education. She worked seven years with the State of TN in Mental Retardation, and also as a contract writer with Lifeway Christian Resources for twenty years. She served as a resource for churches that are starting and teaching adults with special needs for the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
Special awards include Teacher of the Year as a Teacher and Employee of the Year with the State of TN. Dept. of Mental Health and Retardation.
Carolyn was an active member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Maryville, TN. Also, she was a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary.
Carolyn's contributions to improving life for many, her being a Christian role model for her family and friends, mean she will be missed very much.
Services will be held at Bond Memorial Chapel, followed by interment at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Please note that the funeral services and burial for Carolyn will be private. For information about the service details and times, kindly reach out to the family, as they have requested this. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
