Bruce Curtis of Mt Juliet, passed away on September 28, 2025. Bruce was surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on April 30,1940 in Plymouth, Michigan, Bruce was a beloved brother, cousin, uncle, friend, father, grandfather, and husband. He touched the lives of many with his profound sense of humor, warmth, creativity, and curiosity. Bruce was witty, but had an empathetic heart.

Bruce graduated from the University of Illinois with a PhD degree in Physical Education and Social Psychology of Sport. He received his MS degree from Michigan State University and BS degree from Central Michigan University, both also in physical education. He worked as an Athletic Director at numerous small colleges including Rio Grande College, Atlantic Christian College, with his last employment being at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, FL, where he often bragged “where else can I work where I get paid to go to all my youngest son’s ballgames”. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, and he loved anything that involved sports. 

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Curtis, a daughter Katrina (Scott Merryman) and sons, Brandon (D’Ana), Biff (Marilyn), Mitchell Curtis (Crystal), brother Bernie Curtis (Barb Bean), sister Marcile Curtis, grandchildren Hunter Merryman, Jake Merryman (Tegan), Joshua Curtis, Jamink Curtis, Jameen Curtis, Jameecia Curtis, Kendrick Curtis (Lily), Gabby Curtis, Layla Curtis, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces - all who will forever cherish his memory. He is predeceased by mother Doris Curtis and father Bernard Curtis.

There will be a private family gathering to honor and celebrate Bruce. We ask friends to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. The family asks that any donations be made to the charity of their choice.
