Myatt, Barbara Milton , 81, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an unbreakable spirit. She was born in Clarksville before moving to Nashville city at a young age where she formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories. She was a proud graduate of Hume-Fogg High School’s co-op program.
In 1962, she married the love of her life, James Myatt III, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership, lasting until his passing in March 2023. They shared a deep commitment to helping others, volunteering together for Meals on Wheels to deliver meals and companionship to those in need. During his battle with Parkinson’s disease, Barbara was by his side, providing love and support. They attended a Parkinson’s support group together, finding comfort with those managing the disease as well. After his passing, Barbara continued to seek connection and healing by joining a widow’s support group, where she formed meaningful friendships with others who understood her journey.
Barbara was a devoted mother to her two children, Jimmy (Emily) Myatt and Gina (Steve) Smith, who were the light of her life. She also carried in her heart the memory of her firstborn, Leann, whom she lost to stillbirth, a loss that shaped her compassion and deep love for her family. When her children were in high school, Barbara reentered the workforce, initially taking a temporary position at Reemay Incorporated which quickly turned into a permanent role in the purchasing department, where she built a successful 20-year career.
Her five grandchildren, Lilly Felts, Addie Myatt, Ellison Felts, Trent Myatt, and Liam Felts—brought joy to her life. She stayed actively involved in their lives, whether in person or from afar. For those nearby, she enjoyed attending their events, sharing stories, and making sure they felt loved and supported. For those out of town, she always found time to travel for important milestones, had regular FaceTime calls, kept up with their adventures, and never missed an opportunity to show them how much she loved them. She had a way of making her grandchildren feel special in their own way, creating lasting memories through small moments of connection, whether it was sending handwritten notes, celebrating their milestones, or simply sharing a laugh.
Full of energy and enthusiasm, Barbara lived every day to the fullest. She found joy in her exercise classes and was an active member of Mt. Juliet Senior Center, filling her calendar with zoomer workouts, lunches with friends, and outings with her beloved cousins. She had a passion for gardening and took great pride in her yard, finding peace and happiness among her plants and flowers.
A true animal lover, Barbara, had a heart for rescuing those in need. Whether it was a stray in search of a home or an animal in need of care, she always welcomed them with open arms and a loving heart. She also dedicated time to volunteering at a local animal shelter, ensuring that abandoned and rescued animals found the love and care they deserved, especially the senior animals.
Her warmth, kindness, and social spirit touched everyone who knew her. She brought people together, always making time for those she loved. Her vibrant presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and boundless energy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is now reunited with her husband, James Myatt III, her mother, Lillian McDonald, and her beloved firstborn, Leann, but her spirit remains forever in the lives of those she touched.
A celebration of her life will be held later in the spring, when the flowers bloom, reminding us of her presence. Details will be shared soon. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary or Optimum Hope Parkinson Wellness, for those who feel moved to contribute.
