Barbara Jane Eakes, age 82, passed away on May 24, 2026. Born on December 26, 1943, in Nashville, TN, she was the cherished daughter of Hiram and Stella Wheeler. Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend.

Barbara dedicated much of her life to serving others. She served as a church secretary at St. Paul’s United Methodist and Cook's United Methodist, where she touched the lives of many. As the bookkeeper for her late husband’s business, L&C Auto Parts, she combined her professional skills with her devotion to family.

A nurturing caregiver, Barbara was the heart of her family, known for her devotion to her loved ones, having taken care of many a family member. She had a passion for cooking, adored tending to flowers and gardening, and she loved all things in vibrant colors, especially painted pottery. Her love for dogs, especially her grand-dogs, was profound; she cared for every family pet as if they were her own.

Barbara is survived by:

Daughter - Kimberly McNeilly

Brother - Mike Wheeler

Grandchildren - Marcus Ryan McNeilly and Rilee Paige McNeilly

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Hiram Wheeler, and her late husband, Larry G. Eakes.

Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and creativity that will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on in their hearts.

Visitation in honor of Barbara’s life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bond Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro in Barbara's name.
