Annie George Smith, of Mt. Juliet, TN, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026. Annie was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She graduated from Central High School in 1964. She attended MTSU for 2 years and attended “charm school” before entering the work force. She worked as a legal secretary for Schulman, Leroy, and Bennett in downtown Nashville for 41 years.
Annie was funny, joyful, loving, intentional and a great listener. She would find a connection with almost every person that she met. Annie was a faithful and involved member of Mt. Juliet Church of Christ for 42 years. She spent her life serving others in the church by teaching bible classes, mentoring high school senior girls, and working at Mt. Juliet Preschool, serving on Meals on Wheels, and so many other capacities. Her hobbies included reading, baking, sending cards, spending time with her dearest friends, the N.E.D.D.S, watching Tennessee sports especially softball, and playing with their dog, Ruger. She was a loving, Christian wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. Her favorite role was being Nana to her granddaughters. She was looking forward to meeting her first great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by parents, James Samuel and Mary Gladys George.
Annie is survived by:
Husband of 52 years – Gene Smith
Son – Brian (Julie) Smith
Daughter – Melissa (Mike) Welch
Brothers – Grady (Pat) George, James George, and Eugene (Susie) George
Sister – Mary Hiland
Grandchildren – Mikayla (Blake) McLaughlin and Mackenzie (Scott) McKee
And coming soon a great grandson.
Annie is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Juliet Church of Christ, 1940 N. Mt. Juliet Rd. Mt. Juliet, Tn 37122, conducted by Bro. Craig Evans and Bro. David Shannon. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Thomas, David Burka, Jay Keopf, Jason Haley, Joe Brown, and John Stallworth. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Mt. Juliet Church of Christ and from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
