Bridge, Vanessa Ann Stewart, age 51, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 5, 2023. Vanessa was born in Landstuhl, Germany. She was a graduate of Farragut High School, earned her undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and her Master’s degree from Cumberland University. Vanessa worked as an analysist for the IRS. She was a dog lover and enjoyed cross stitching. Vanessa was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Ann Bates; son, Zane Bridge; maternal grandparents, Herbert N. and Betty Bates and paternal grandparents, Harold E. “Jack” and Virginia Stewart.

She is survived by:

Hamilton, Sr. John Francis “Big John”, age 73, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 5, 2023. John was born in Nashville, TN and was the son of the late, Joe P. Hamilton, Jr. and Judy A. Samuelson Hamilton. He was an awesome husband, father, son, brother, Pop, uncle, great-uncle, son-in-law and best friend. John was a graduate of Stratford High School and Vanderbilt University. He was a professional mechanical engineer and owner/president of Hamilton Machine Company, Inc. John was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was a musician and loved music and also loved traveling and being on the lake, especially Center Hill Lake. John  loved nature and enjoyed sitting in the front porch swing watching God’s creation. From that front porch swing he watched deer, skunks, coyotes, turkeys, fox, birds, hawks, squirrels and groundhogs. He designed and had the house built fully handicapped accessible for the in-laws so his wife, Lisa could take care of her mom and dad. John had an amazing warped sense of humor. He was a story teller and could make you believe anything. He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Hamilton; sister, Diane Hamilton and mother-in-law, Louise Smith.

Beck, Karen Ann McClure, age 68, of Nashville, TN died February 8, 2023 peacefully at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was surrounded by her loving husband and family. Karen was the proud owner of L’K’S Boutique. After retirement Karen and her husband Jim loved to travel. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Helen McClure and nephews Chris and Robert Huttinger.

Eakes, Hermene, age 93, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 6, 2023. Hermene was born in Wilson County, TN and was the daughter of the late, Bedford W. Eakes and Karleen Lester Eakes. She was raised on a Grade A Dairy Farm on Central Pike. Hermene was a member of Center Chapel Church of Christ. She was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School.  Hermene was elected Miss Mt. Juliet High and Miss FFA Queen and  was also co-captain of the basketball team. She enjoyed square dancing, flower gardening, attending her class reunions and cooking for her large family; which always included her delicious cornbread and peach cobbler. She was preceded in death by her sons, Terry Peek (infant), Tony Peek and Tommy Peek.

She is survived by:

Children – Tena Allison, Tammy (Larry) Pratt and Timmy (Joyce) Peek

15 Grandchildren; 15 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great grandchildren

 

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Tim Peek, Scott Peek, BW Allison, Peyton Pratt, Cason Pratt, and Larry Pratt.

Smartt, Donald Oakley, age 77, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 17, 2023. Don was born in Oak Ridge, TN and was the son of the late, Milton Oakley Smartt and Nona Cox Hibbett Smartt. He was a member of Belinda Parkway Church of Christ and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Don was a 1963 graduate of DuPont High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He was the owner of Smartt Software Systems and held distinctions of Certified Data Processor and Certified Computing Professional. Don served on the Board of Directors for the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals and was the International Director for the Chattanooga Chapter of the Data Processing Management Association. He enjoyed music and was a member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band, Silver Notes Band, Jazz Alliance Band and Music City Swing Band.

He is survived by:

Wife of 43 years – Austelle Baird Smartt

Son – Joshua Oakley Smartt

Grandson – Keller Oakley Smartt

Brothers – Stanley F. (Marcia) Smartt and Steven H. (Susan) Smartt

Rodgers, Joseph Deloy, age 88, of Hermitage, TN died February 18, 2023. Joe was born in Old Hickory, TN and was the son of the late, Dornal Lee Rodgers and Annie Pearl Uselton Rodgers. He served in the Air National Guard and was a metal fabricator, retiring from AVCO. Joe loved cars, woodworking, camping, being outdoors and his dog, Ollie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Ellis Rodgers; daughter, Sharon Hamm and 5 siblings.

Eaton, Geneva, age 88, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 8, 2023. Geneva was born in Nashville, TN and was the daughter of the late, Edward Jordan and Daisy Stokes Jordan. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet and was retired from Bell South. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband G.C. McDonald and Bobby Eaton.

Zimmerman, Donald G., age 93, passed away February 7, 2023, peacefully at his farm in the Suggs Creek community of Mt. Juliet surrounded by family. A long-time Mt. Juliet resident, he was the co-founder of Textile Converters, Inc. (TCI), The Chronicle of Mt. Juliet newspaper, and the designer/builder of the Mt. Juliet Prayer Garden. The son of Leon and Esther Zimmerman of Lancaster County, PA, Zimmerman and his family moved to their Mt. Juliet farm in 1978. He was married 54 years to Jetta Marie Elam of Rockford, IL, who passed away in 2006. They had four children, all who survive him. Zimmerman was married to Kat-Marie Gamel, who survives, since 2007.

 

Zimmerman was an avid sailor and active member of the Harbor Island Yacht Club, serving as Commodore in 1990. He and Jetta and friends often sailed the Caribbean. He was one of the few surviving members of the Williamson College of Mechanical Trades (Media, PA), Class of 1948. He and his family resided in Illinois and Wisconsin in 1949-70, before moving to Tennessee. His career included stints as a steam plant operator and owner of a hardware store. In 1972, Zimmerman co-founded Textile Converters, a successful company based in Hermitage, processing textile materials for the Old Hickory Dupont plant. He was an active member of Celebration Lutheran Church, where the prayer garden is located. He and his wife Kat-Marie were also active members of the Men of Valor prison ministry and received the MOV Volunteers of the Year Award in 2011. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Mt. Juliet Help Center. He earned a private pilot’s license. He raised horses and livestock on his farm. Semi-retiring in 1985, he worked and tinkered in a variety of activities, including house building, carpet and oil-spill reclamation, rescuing a concrete plant in receivership, building model boats and a full-size rowing skiff, erecting a working windmill, and producing handmade “water windows” and “toaster tongs” among many other pursuits.

 

In addition to his wife, survivors include children, Mark Zimmerman, Heidi (Fred Dies) Zimmerman, Karen (Steve) Morrow, Brian (Amy) Zimmerman, Janette (Karl) Lehtola, and Ronnie Gamel, Jr.; grandchildren, Walker (Cara) Dorris, Carson Dorris, Ansleigh (James) Wallace, Caitlin (Max) Trueheart, Sarah (Daniel) Sanders, Mary Kate Morrow, and Matt Sagraves and great-grandchildren, Merryn Dorris, Foster Dorris, Gavin Sagraves, Brenden Sanders, and Elliot Wallace.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Celebration Lutheran Church, 3425 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet, TN. Interment will be at the Mt. Juliet Prayer Garden.

 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, etc., donations be made to Celebration Lutheran Church or Alive Hospice.

Baker, Vera Ann Blackstone, age 85, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, died February 11, 2023. Vera was born in Augusta, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late, Freddie Lee and Goldie Mae Blackstone. She was baptized on December 25, 1971, as an active member of the Mt. Juliet Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she devoted much time to sharing God’s message in the door-to-door ministry. She was a true wordsmith, writing many songs, poems, and letters throughout her life. She loved crocheting, crafting, and home decorating. She was preceded in death by her son, Alan Mitchell; grandson, Justin Mitchell; and brothers, Edward (Gene) Blackstone and Donald Blackstone.

She is survived by:

Husband of 64 years – Bill Baker

Children – Dana (Sharon) Mitchell, Gina Baker and Tami Baker (Sean) Duggan

Brother – Virgil (Sandra Kay) Blackstone

Grandchildren – Jonathan (Jennifer) Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Alan (Brooke) Mitchell, Avery Green and Sydney Green

Fitzgerald, Paul Larry, age 75, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 22, 2023. Paul was born in Knox County, TN and was the son of the late, Fred Dennis Fitzgerald and Dossie Taylor Fitzgerald. He was a retired mechanic and enjoyed working on vehicles and lawnmowers. Paul was often referred to as “Mr. Goodwrench”. He also enjoyed fishing and UT sports. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Cairllon Moore Fitzgerald; son, Craig Fitzgerald; siblings, Kat Greer and Dennis Fitzgerald and brother-in-law, Thurston Moore.

Leach, Patsy Ruth, age 87, of Mt. Juliet, TN died February 26, 2023. Patsy was born in Milan, TN and was the daughter of the late, Columbus Franklin Phillips and Ora Alice Milford Phillips. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church. Patsy was also preceded in death by her husband, Byron O’Neal Leach and son, Anthony Byron Leach.

Monohan, Jr., Michael Thomas “Tommy,” age 55, of Nashville, TN passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2023.

 

He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories, wit, and hilarious sense of humor. His infectious smile and laugh will live on forever.

 

Tommy was born on November 6th, 1967, in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Father Ryan High School, Class of 1986, and attended Middle TN State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1992. He continued his education, earning a Degree in Mechatronics Technology A.A.S. Tommy joined Samuel, Son & Co. in Columbia, TN as a Controls Technician in 2018, where he was employed until his death.

 

Tommy was a fan of music, riding motorcycles and was talented with home remodeling. He was knowledgeable in so many fields and tinkered with anything that was of interest to him. Most of all, Tommy loved and cherished being a father.

 

Tommy is survived by his son, Asa Michael Monohan; parents, Mike and Anita Monohan, and sister, Jenny Monohan. As well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Ethel Monohan; maternal grandparents, Pat and Betty Corsini and sister, Lisa Maureen Monohan.

 

Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm Friday, March 10, 2023 at St. Stephen Catholic Community, 14544 Lebanon Road, Old Hickory, TN. Services followed by a reception at 3 p.m. in the St. Stephen’s Holy Family Center Lower Hall.

 

Flowers accepted or memorial donation may be made to the Nashville Humane Society.
