Col. Floyd Stowe, USMC, Ret., age 70, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died February 3, 2016. Colonel Stowe enlisted in the USMC on November 19, 1964 and served until 1968. After completing OCS and TBS, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1969 and retired with the rank of Colonel in 1993 serving a total of 29 years. He spent one year in Vietnam (1970-1971) as an Air Intercept Control Officer. Col. Stowe taught high school math at Havelock High School in Havelock, NC and at Wilson Central High School. He was also the JROTC Senior Marine Instructor for eight years at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, LA. Col. Stowe was Founder and Chief of Township Volunteer Fire Department in Havelock, NC. He was the son of the late, Floyd Harry Stowe, Sr. and Eula Maye Bassett Stowe.

Prater, James A., age 82, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died February 5, 2016. Mr. Prater was a member of the Church of God. He loved fishing, hunting, baseball, shooting pool and animals. Mr. Prater liked to go for walks and was an avid reader. He was the son of the late, Alonzo and Pansy Gertrude Stewart Prater. Mr. Prater was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edsel Prater and Paul Prater and his sister, Ruth Stanford.

Pounds, Annabel Joy, age 3, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died peacefully at home on February 17, 2016. Annabel was born with a disease called Tay-Sachs that took her life at a very young age, but she knew nothing but love, joy and kindness from those fortunate enough to know her. Even though she is no longer able to breathe air here on Earth, she will live on in the hearts and lives of so many who love and miss her very much. This is only the beginning of Annabel’s legacy, and her story is far from over.

Oldham, Mikey Louise, age 70, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died February 17, 2016 of heart failure after a long battle with diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Mikey was born in 1945 in a hotel room above the doctor’s office in Groom, TX. She grew up in Pampa, TX. At 12 years old she knew she wanted to live her life in service to God and became interested in religious journalism. Her goal was to be an editor at the Baptist Sunday School Board, now known as Lifeway Church Resources. After teaching public school, serving as the Children’s Minister at First Baptist Church in Moore, Ok and earning a Masters of Divinity, she reached her goal. When her health permitted, she faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet, where she also taught Sunday School for many years. The focus of her life was to serve God and minister to children, which she did while fighting through painful chronic illnesses. She lived as an example of strength and faith to all who knew her. Mikey was the daughter of the late, Charley and Dorothy Nell Tunnell Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Raymond Oldham and niece, Becky Porter.
