Risner, Betty J., age 70, of Nashville, TN, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 with her family by her side. Betty was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and attended Austin Peay State University. She began working for the State of Tennessee in 1964 when she was 20 years old, and served in the Labor Department, the FFA, the Education Department and ended her service with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, from which she retired in 1995. She met the love of her life, Larry, on July 4, 1964 and vowed that day to a friend that she had “met the man that she would marry.” They did indeed marry on March 26, 1965. Betty was the daughter of the late, Joe and Margie Guthrie Burlason. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Burlason, Jr. and Edward “Rocky” Burlason. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and Nana.

McBroom, DDS, William Ray, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died November 6, 2014 after a brief illness. Dr. McBroom was born August 29, 1937 in Davidson County to the late, Bonell McBroom, Sr. and Pansy Drake McBroom. He earned his B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and graduated from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry in 1962. He worked in public health is the state of Virginia for 2 years. He moved to Nashville in 1964 and worked in public health for several years before going into private practice on Nolensville Road, where he was assisted by his wife, Sandra for 35 years. He retired in 2007. Dr. McBroom enjoyed trains, duck hunting, conservation and doing God’s work. He was a member of Green Hill Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. Dr. McBroom was also a member of the Mid-South Live Steamers, Nashville Garden Railways and Ducks Unlimited.

Bates, Ernest Wayne, age 69, of Lebanon, TN, died November 9, 2014. Mr. Bates retired from AVCO in 2001. He was a member of McWhirtersville Masonic Lodge #375 F&AM and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Bates was an avid outdoorsman, animal lover and Alabama fan.
