Hicks, Jr., William Hagar “Bill”, age 74, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died July 3, 2014. Mr. Hicks completed a five year apprenticeship program for the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees for the Electrical Industries. He was retired from DuPont after 35 years of service. Mr. Hicks was a farmer in Gladeville and raised beef cattle. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his family. Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his father, William Hagar Hicks, Sr. and his daughter, Sissy Hicks.

Robinson, Christopher Wayne, age 44, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died July 5, 2014.

Chris was a member of Green Hill Church. He was employed as a warehouse manager at Associated Equipment.

Fleming, George Robert, age 87, of Donelson, TN, died July 5, 2014. Mr. Fleming was employed by IBEW Local #429 for over 20 years. He was a past member of Cumberland Lodge #8 F&AM, the Scottish Rite and Al Menah Shrine Temple. Mr. Fleming was the son of the late, Jasper and Allie Fleming. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Fleming and his son, George “Randy” Fleming.

Cook, Robert L. “Bob”, age 72, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died July 10, 2014. Mr. Cook was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Donelson High School and was retired from the State of Tennessee. Mr. Cook was an avid fisherman. He was the son of the late, John H. and Helen Worsley Cook.

Hammond, Georgia Janice, age 75, of Lebanon, TN, died July 15, 2014. Mrs. Hammond was a member of Cloyd’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was formerly employed as a receptionist at World Testing and the Women’s Health Center. Mrs. Hammond was the daughter of the late, Dillard Lollar, Jr. and Ottie Maynard Lollar but she was raised by her late grandparents, Van and Secie Maynard.

England, Linda, age 67, of Lebanon, TN, died July 22, 2014. Ms. England was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School where she was a part of the 1964 All-Nashville Basketball Team. She was a Professional Angler for 20 years and the all-time money winner and champion world-wide in women’s bass fishing. Along with Fredda Lee, she opened the door for other women to be able to compete in B.A.S.S. Tournaments. She and Fredda were authors of a book titled Bass on the Line; they did a segment on Channel 4 with Rudy Kalis called Fishing Tips and had their own Television show called On the Line with Linda England and Fredda Lee. Linda later was a realtor with Twin Teams Properties where she was a multimillion dollar real estate producer. She was the daughter of the late, Mason and Frankie Malone Pearl. Linda was also preceded in death by her brother, James Pearl.

Lemmonds, Sr., Joseph Lee, age 62, of Hermitage, TN, died July 25, 2014.

Mr. Lemmonds was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was the recipient of two purple hearts. Mr. Lemmonds was a member of the American Legion Donelson Post #88. He was a member of the National and the Tennessee Burglar Alarm Associations. Mr. Lemmonds was the son of the late, Billy Wilson Lemmonds, Sr. and Reba Jean Melton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Justin Lee Lemmonds.

Sullins, Jr., Joe E., age 87, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died July 26, 2014. Mr. Sullins was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church and a former member of Riverside Baptist Church in East Nashville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a former member of the American Legion. Mr. Sullins was retired from Ford Glass Plant and was a member of the UAW. He was the son of the late, Joe E. Sullins, Sr. and Bessie Scoggins Sullins. Mr. Sullins was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bertha Nell Sullins and his brothers, Alton, Walter, Eugene and S.T. Sullins.

Thomas, Dorothy Nell, age 94, of Mt. Juliet and formerly of Pampa, Texas, died July 23, 2014 in Nashville.  Mrs. Thomas was born Feb. 18, 1920 in Electra, Texas. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Juliet and formerly an active member of Central Baptist Church in Pampa, Texas. She was a tireless leader in the Women’s Missionary Union in Pampa. Dorothy was well known throughout her life for her parties, programs and creative presentations in service to her church and community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Thomas; all but one of her sisters and brothers; and one granddaughter, Becky Porter.

 

She is survived by:

Daughters - Mikey Oldham, of Mt. Juliet, and Suzie Porter, of Layton, Utah.

Sister - Meta Graves, of Electra, Texas.

Visitation for Mrs. Thomas was held Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 12:45 p.m. until the service time at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home in Pampa, Texas. Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, Texas, with the Rev. Rick Parnell, associate pastor of Central Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. 

Devendorf (Ret), Major David Lawrence, age 85, of Hermitage, TN, died July 25, 2014. Mr. Devendorf was retired from the USAF with 20 years of service. He was also retired from the FAA Federal Aviation with 20 years of service. Mr. Devendorf was a member of the American Legion Donelson Post #88 for 38 years. He was the son of the late, Edward C. and Emma Ackerman Devendorf. Mr. Devendorf was also preceded in death by his wife, Wylodene “Litt” Devendorf and 3 brothers.

Wise, Marianne Kay, age 66, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died July 27, 2014. Mrs. Wise was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. She retired as a Registered Nurse after 46 years of service. She spent 27 of those years at Summit Medical Center as the Charge Nurse in the Same Day Surgery Unit. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her step-father, Harold Eugene Jarvis

Gurkin, David Brinkley “Gran”, age 85, of Hermitage, TN, died July 30, 2014. Mr. Gurkin was a member of Hickory Bend United Methodist Church. He was employed by the GF Puhl Company for over 20 years where he worked jobs throughout the United States and Mexico. Mr. Gurkin was the son of the late, William Thomas and Lydia Williams Gurkin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William H. Gurkin and Dalmer Gurkin and several nephews. Mr. Gurkin considered his family his treasure.
