JangDhari, Rev. Kendrick S.W., age 81, died August 25, 2014. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Kendrick was the 7th of 25 children born to Joseph and Rosalyn JangDhari in the village of St Julien on April 5, 1933. Beloved Reverend, educator and business man, he had a passion for knowledge and possessed unique skills as an excellent communicator, which garnered the path for him to earn the Certificate of Education from Cambridge University in London, England. From there, he began his professional career teaching and managing a line of department stores in Curepe/Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. Never one to sit idle for any spare moment, he continued his formal training as he matriculated through the American Baptist Theological Seminary College of the Bible in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was ordained as a Baptist minister. His first pastoral charge was with the Progressive Baptist Church in Nashville. He was subsequently honored the appointment as Senior Pastor for over twenty years of First Community Church in Nashville, Tennessee. At the same time, he touched the lives of so many students in his position as Director, Auxiliary Enterprises at Tennessee State University, until his retirement. One of his greatest personal accomplishments was to support his daughter, K. S. Wendy JangDhari, DDS, in establishing Family Dentistry in Nashville and proudly served as the administrator/manager of this dental practice.
Kendrick and Gloria were united in holy matrimony on April 20, 1957 and influenced a host of lives beyond their four biological children with his outpouring of love and unconditional support and guidance to so many. After moving his family to the United States in 1963, he overcame many obstacles and countless challenges to raise a family for which he was the most proud. A day didn't go by where he would find time to relay fond stories of his children and their accomplishments, never taking the credit he so well deserved for instilling his confidence, determination, and sense of pride to allow them to achieve anything within their power. He himself was humbly the recipient of many awards and honors throughout his lifetime. Kendrick, affectionately referred to as "Rev" by so many who made his acquaintance, is well remembered for being extremely loving, caring and kind. He always had a welcoming smile, encouraging word and warm embrace to share with anyone. He was a loyal member of the Jordonia United Methodist Church and spoke and believed, with a profound commitment, the words of the Lord.
